Narasimha Murthy

Pandemic has accelerated the pace of technology integration in the country. A blended learning atmosphere has helped save time and costs. In the last two years, there has been a great transformation and proliferation of digital learning across India and in bridging the digital divide. Explaining this, Narasimha Murthy, Head ICT Dept, Daffodils English School, Bengaluru, spoke at the Future Ready Bharat – State Education Summit, Karnataka.

Highlighting the role of technology in transforming education, Narasimha Murthy, Head ICT Dept, Daffodils English School, Bengaluru, said, “Due to the pandemic, in spite of so many challenges, the entire educators community, whether it is the private or public sector, were able to transform the teaching and learning activities. This all was possible with the help of remote learning and the tools & technologies like Microsoft Teams, which brought all our students onboard.”

Talking about Microsoft, he said that it helped navigate the learning challenges COVID brought with itself when the schools and colleges were shut down. “Online learning played a crucial role in keeping the education momentum going in the country,” he said.

On leveraging Microsoft technology to transform teaching and learning during the pandemic, Murthy said that they started having brainstorming sessions, including the leadership and the technical teams. “Teachers were also included in the sessions because they were the main stakeholders who could carry forward our plans. We also included our administration staff as they were the main source for all the information and thus helped us a lot in this whole process of transformation,” he said.

The school also conducted training for the teachers, the administration and the technical staff through Microsoft Teams. “We made them understand the ecosystem of Teams and asked them to create IDs for each and every student of our school. We also asked them to create a tech support ID so that the teachers, students, and parents could contact them in case any technical assistance is required during the training sessions,” he said. After the training sessions, the school also provided a lot of online resources and courses.

He opined that digital classrooms have helped bridge the digital divide associated with online learning. “With the help of Microsoft Teams, we were able to conduct every type of class online – physical education, yoga, music, dance.” Apart from Teams, the other technology which the school used extensively was Microsoft Whiteboard.

Talking about a program ‘Imagine Cup Junior’, which Microsoft launched for the secondary school students, Murthy said it was a very effective and successful program in generating education curiosity among the students.
