The Rajasthan government has announced a series of measures aimed at reducing road accidents, improving emergency response and strengthening road safety awareness across the state. The decisions were taken during the 22nd meeting of the State Road Safety Council chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Transport & Road Safety Minister Dr. Premchand Bairwa.

The council reviewed progress under the state’s 10-year Road Safety Action Plan, implementation of previous decisions and the status of road safety initiatives. Officials were directed to ensure timely implementation of pending actions, improve support mechanisms for accident victims and strengthen coordination among departments involved in road safety management.
Key measures include enhanced training for heavy vehicle drivers during licence renewals, improved road safety education in schools and colleges, installation of safety infrastructure near schools, hospitals and populated areas, and stricter compliance with driver duty-hour regulations. The government also emphasised regular health checks, adequate rest periods and vehicle fitness inspections for bus and truck operators.

The council reviewed the rollout of Intelligent Traffic Management Systems (ITMS) on state highways and highlighted the importance of community participation in road safety. The Good Samaritan incentive for citizens assisting accident victims has been increased from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000, with 340 individuals recognised under the scheme so far. Officials said the state will also expand Basic Life Support (BLS) training programmes to equip citizens with life-saving skills and strengthen emergency response capabilities.
