Telecom Commission approved the spectrum trading and sharing guidelines. The matter would now be referred to the Cabinet for a final nod.
“We have finalised the view on spectrum sharing and trading guidelines. We will try to send the norms to the Cabinet by the end of this month,” department of telecommunications secretary and Telecom Commission chairman Rakesh Garg said.

In July last year, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had recommended that two licencees in an area with the same band of spectrum could pool or trade this scarce resource.
The government, allocates spectrum to telecom companies through the auction. Once trading is allowed, it will help telecom operators, with lower subscriber base, to trade in it.
