IT Can Help in Solving Pending Cases:Kapil Sibal

Kapil Sibal, Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Law and Justice said that extensive use of Information Technology can help in solving the pending cases in various courts. It is expected that pending court cases might rise five fold up to 15 crore in coming years.

Pendency of court cases is in crores today which is going to rise in coming years. Information Technology can help in solving around 30-35 percent pending cases.

Around three crore pending cases relate to Negotiation of Instrument Act like cheque bounce, 10 percent are regarding dispute on motor vehicle claims and 5-7 percent relating to Electricity Act.

Mr. Sibal said such cases, accounting for 33-35 percent of the all pending cases, could be resolved with the use of IT. He said 26 percent of the pending cases are over five years old and 40 percent are more than one year old.

He was in a view that creating more infrastructures need to deal with the pendency and added that there were plans to double the population to court ratio in the next five years from 10 lakh people to 15 courts now.
