New Jodhpur Airport

Jodhpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed terminal at Jodhpur Airport, developed with an investment of ₹480 crore, marking a major addition to Rajasthan’s aviation infrastructure. He also launched the revamped UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) Scheme, aimed at expanding regional air connectivity and making air travel more accessible across the country.

The new terminal has been designed to accommodate the growing passenger traffic in the region. Spread over 23,000 square metres, the facility can handle up to 20 lakh passengers annually and features modern passenger amenities, improved operational facilities, and architecture inspired by Rajasthan’s traditional design elements.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that improved aviation infrastructure plays an important role in strengthening tourism, trade, investment, and employment. He noted that enhanced connectivity will further support the economic development of Jodhpur and the surrounding regions.

Alongside the terminal inauguration, the Prime Minister launched the Modified UDAN Scheme, which has a proposed outlay of ₹28,840 crore over the next decade. The revised programme aims to strengthen regional connectivity by developing 100 additional aerodromes, expanding helicopter and seaplane operations, and improving aviation access to remote and underserved areas. The scheme also includes financial support for airport infrastructure and operational viability.

The new terminal and the expanded UDAN initiative are expected to strengthen regional connectivity, improve passenger convenience, and support the continued growth of India’s civil aviation sector while creating new opportunities for tourism, commerce, and regional development.
