Prime Minister Narendra Modi co-chaired the AI Summit 2025 in Paris alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, advocating for global AI standards rooted in fairness, transparency, and accessibility. Addressing world leaders, PM Modi emphasised the transformative potential of AI while underscoring the need for responsible governance.
Expressing gratitude to President Macron, PM Modi remarked, “AI is already reshaping our economy, security, and society. It is writing the code for humanity in this century.” He called for international collaboration to set global standards addressing AI challenges, including cybersecurity threats, disinformation, and deepfakes.
Highlighting AI’s role in accelerating sustainable development, he stated, “AI can help transform millions of lives by improving health, education, and agriculture. To achieve this, we must pool resources and talent.” He also stressed the importance of open-source AI systems to ensure trust and transparency.
On AI’s impact on jobs, PM Modi acknowledged fears of job losses but reaffirmed that history has shown technology alters work rather than eliminating it. “We must invest in skilling and reskilling people for an AI-driven future,” he said.
PM Modi also underscored AI’s rapid global expansion and the necessity for a unified governance framework that safeguards shared values. He emphasized AI efficiency and sustainability, drawing a comparison: “The human brain composes poetry and designs spaceships while using less power than a light bulb.”
Showcasing India’s AI leadership, he highlighted the country’s digital public infrastructure for 1.4 billion people, its techno-legal advancements in data privacy, and its vast AI talent pool, positioning India as a global leader in AI adoption.
