Telangana converting panchayats into mini banks, insurance centres

sez-300x300The Telangana Government will convert around 8,650 panchayat offices in the State into mini banks and mini insurance service centres. The State has announced a plan to turn panchayats into e-panchayats, providing all the government-to-citizen (G2C) services over the Internet to the villagers at the Digital Telangana centres.

Addressing a FICCI meet on Integrated Digital Solutions for a Smarter Telangana, Telangana IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said, “Besides providing citizen services online, these centres would act like business correspondents, giving people access to a few banking activities.” He further added that the Government will add more services to the eGovernance delivery service Mee Seva to take the total number of services to 400. The current number for the same is 320.

“We are planning to make certain services only online, avoiding all physical interactions with government departments,” he said.

Relating the efforts to make at least one person in each family digitally literate, Jayesh said that in order to catch them young, the government would begin digital literacy activity right from Class VI.

Seeing multiple users of internet over smart phones, the government will develop mobile apps too to let people access the G2C services.
