Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has outlined an ambitious vision to transform the national capital from a transit stop into a vibrant global tourism destination. Speaking at a Tourism Stakeholders Conference, she emphasized that Delhi should become a city where visitors choose to stay, explore, and return.

From Transit Hub to ‘Destination City’

Highlighting the need for a strategic shift, Rekha Gupta said Delhi must reposition itself as a “destination city” offering diverse and immersive experiences. She noted that insights from industry experts and stakeholders will play a key role in shaping future tourism policies.

Multi-Sector Tourism Strategy

The conference brought together voices from across the tourism and hospitality ecosystem to discuss a wide range of sectors, including:

  • Heritage and cultural tourism
  • Spiritual and wellness tourism
  • Medical and digital tourism
  • Night tourism and hospitality growth
  • Branding and global positioning of Delhi

These discussions are expected to guide a more holistic and future-ready tourism roadmap for the city.

Showcasing Delhi’s Rich Heritage

The Chief Minister highlighted Delhi’s unique identity as a city where history and modernity coexist. Iconic landmarks such as Red Fort and Qutub Minar, along with institutions like India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan, and Parliament House, were cited as key strengths that position Delhi as a complete tourism experience.

She also underlined the city’s cultural diversity, cuisine, and vibrant traditions as major attractions for global visitors.

Government’s Roadmap for Tourism Growth

Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra shared key initiatives aimed at strengthening the tourism ecosystem:

  • Setting up a Delhi Tourism Board
  •  Introducing a single-window clearance system for projects
  • Beautification of major city entry points
  • Development of Unity Mall
  • Creation of integrated heritage and cultural experiences

He noted that support from the central government will further help position Delhi as a global tourism hub.

Policy Backed by Stakeholder Input

Officials confirmed that suggestions gathered during the conference will be incorporated into upcoming tourism policies. The focus will be on enhancing infrastructure, improving visitor experience, and strengthening Delhi’s global brand.
