Gorakhpur took a big step forward in its development journey as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated and laid the foundation for 497 projects worth ₹1,055 crore. The event, held near the Rapti River at Eklta Bund, showcased a strong push towards better infrastructure, cleaner surroundings, and sustainable urban growth.
Major Infrastructure Boost
The projects cover a wide range of urban needs—from roads and drainage to parks and public utilities. Key highlights include smart roads under the CM GRID scheme, multiple road and drainage works, and municipal development projects aimed at improving connectivity and reducing congestion across the city.
From Waste to Green Space
One of the most striking developments is the transformation of a large legacy waste dump into a modern eco park. Over 2.26 lakh metric tonnes of waste have been processed to create a green recreational space with play areas, yoga zones, and landscaped greenery. Calling it a “waste to wealth” model, the Chief Minister said it reflects a new approach to sustainable urban development.
Focus on Cleanliness and Awareness
During the event, Yogi Adityanath also launched the ‘Swachh School Campaign’, encouraging students to adopt practices like reduce, reuse, and recycle. The campaign will involve over one lakh students through creative activities and awareness drives, aiming to build a culture of cleanliness from a young age.
Towards a Smarter, Greener City
The Chief Minister highlighted how Gorakhpur has evolved over the years with improvements in roads, healthcare, education, and sanitation. He also pointed to the growing use of solar energy and better waste management systems as steps towards making the city more sustainable.
Better Connectivity and Public Services
Several new road projects and urban corridors were also announced to ease traffic and improve connectivity. In addition, new civic vehicles and equipment were flagged off to strengthen waste management and public services.
Encouraging Public Participation
The event also included tree plantation drives and recognition of municipal workers. The Chief Minister urged citizens to actively participate in keeping the city clean and green, including efforts like developing mini urban forests in different areas.
