The Indian Government is planning to evolve e-Governance programme, national Land Information System (LIS) system, the digital form of keeping land records, which helps both the administration and owners in getting various economic facilities through e-Governance.

National Atlas Thematic Mapping Organisation (NATMO), department of science and technology has given a proposal to build a national LIS system. Central and State government is making an effort to improve land administration by using technology based LIS system. According to Amitabh Pande, secretary of inter-state council, the Inter-state council is giving a platform to evolve consensus between the Center and the states.
