Hong Kong Legislative Council has approved a multi-million dollar programme to provide Internet services in government premises.

The Hong Kong Government has invested 217.6 million HK dollars for this programme. This programme will provide benefits to citizens, the commercial sector, and the information and communications technology (ICT) industry. Under the program, Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) facilities will be set up at about 350 government premises for free use by the public in the coming two years. Later on Wi-Fi services would be provided in libraries, community halls by mid 2008.
