India expects to collect INR 350 billion from the auction of third-generation (3G) radio spectrum, scheduled to happen by December this year. The auction would allow telecoms firms to offer services such as high-speed Internet and video downloads on mobile phones. The government had initially aimed to get INR 200 billion.

The State Bank of India (SBI), has started making direct payment to the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) beneficiaries through SBI biometric smart card, on a pilot basis in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh (UP).
