It is time to take stock of the ICTD project since the project is now moving into its final phase with only a few months to go before the project ends.
Now, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is ready with the software that will allow people to make payment to property tax through online. Users can log onto the new portal www.mcdpropertytax.in and file their tax returns via online.
After State Bank of India (SBI) and other six other nationalised banks set up will Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) at railway stations. Indian Railways has invited Expression of Interest (EoI) from all other banks to install ATMs at different stations.
SBI Life Insurance Co. Ltd. has announced on November 27, 2006 the launch of `Bancassurance Online’.
Soon Indian Railway will allow passengers to use their ATMs for booking rail tickets. The ATMs will have Internet access facility, so that passengers can book their e-tickets.
The West Bengal government in India is planning to make more interactive e-Governance platform by incorporating retail banking and agriculture advisory services through a network of kiosks till the gram panchayat level.
The Central Board of Excise and Customs of Ministry of Finance,Government of India has decided to make electronic payment of service tax mandatory for certain service tax assessees.
The Government of India is trying to entrench the country towards an e-Governance era and projects like Rajiv Internet village (RAJiv) are ideally placed to provide a solid foundation to the rural parts of the country.
