Smart Cards Introduced by SBI in UP

The State Bank of India (SBI), has started making direct payment to the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) beneficiaries through SBI biometric smart card, on a pilot basis in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh (UP).

The State Bank of India (SBI), has started making direct payment to the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) beneficiaries through SBI biometric smart card, on a pilot basis in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh (UP).

The initiative is expected to roll out across the state soon and SBI expects to cover about 1 crore beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh in collaboration with the state government. With this, Uttar Pradesh becomes the second state in the country, after Andhra Pradesh, to make payment to NREGA beneficiaries through biometric smart card.
