International Domain Names (IDN) have become the subject of discussion at a recent press conference organised by Afilias to spread the word on the inclusion of domain names in various other languages, other than English. Imagine writing an email in urdu, using urdu script, an urdu email id within an urdu domain and receiving a reply in hindi, with a hindi e-mail id, hindi domain, etc!

The 11th National Conference on e-Governance was held from 7 to 8th February 2008, at Panchkula, Haryana, India. The conference was jointly organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances and the Department of Information Technology, Government of India and the Department of Information Technology, Haryana. The theme of the conference was Integrated Citizen Services

“To facilitate the users/citizens in the rural areas, steps are being taken to immediately start escorting services through CSCs for delivery of various services being given by district administration or line departments from the district headquarters, so that the villagers could avoid the harassment of traveling to district headquarters several times for services like getting an income certificate, caste certificate, domicile certificate and so forth”, informs V S Kundu, Managing Director, Haryana State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd., and Special Secretary, IT, Government of Haryana, to egov magazine.
