1 Lakh Common Service Centres by July 2009

Government plans to establish One Lakh Common Service Centres (CSCs) in 600,000 villages,to provide IT enabled services to the people in the rural areas.Out of which 18,000 CSCs have already been set up.The CSC roll out is part of Department of Information technology’s steps to support Infrastructure under the National E-Governance Plan for enabling anytime, anywhere delivery of government services. Department of Information Technology would provide calibrated support through policy interventions and appropriate financial support to create the basic infrastructure for these 100,000 proposed CSCs. All these CSCs are scheduled to be operational by July next year.

Now India will have indigenous Operating System for the country’s various e-Governance projects. In this regard, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Department of Information Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with National Informatics Centre.

5000 Rural Blocks in India to get Wireless Broadband soon

India will connect 5000 blocks in the country with wireless broadband, once the spectrum is allocated later this year, announced Department of Telecommunications (DOT) , Government of India. The project will be undertaken along with the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF). The plan aims to provide connectivity to villages coming within a radius of 10 Kms of the Taluka/Block headquarters.
