
Satish Kumar, an Indian Railway Management Service officer, has been appointed as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Board, effective from September 1. Kumar, who succeeds Jaya Verma Sinha upon her retirement on August 31, marks a historic first as the board’s first Scheduled Caste chairman and CEO.
Kumar, a 1986 batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), has had a distinguished 34-year career with Indian Railways. Notably, he took charge as the General Manager of North Central Railway, Prayagraj, on November 8, 2022, a significant milestone in his service.

With a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Operation Management and Cyber Law from Indira Gandhi National Open University, Kumar’s educational and professional achievements have been widely recognised.
