Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) announced on Tuesday that it has bagged a significant order from NTPC Limited for the establishment of the 2×800 MW Singrauli Supercritical Thermal Power Plant (STPP) Stage-III. The project, secured through international competitive bidding (ICB), will be executed on an engineering, procurement & construction (EPC) basis.
As per an official statement, the plant will be set up adjacent to the existing 2,000 MW thermal power station at Singrauli in Sonebhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. Notably, set up by BHEL in 1982, Singrauli TPS was NTPC’s first power plant in Uttar Pradesh. The machines installed earlier by BHEL at Singrauli have been performing exceedingly well since commissioning.
Critical equipment for the project will be provided by BHEL’s manufacturing units located at Haridwar, Trichy, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ranipet, and Bhopal.

With a robust portfolio encompassing over 134,000 MW of thermal power plants installed across the country (constituting approximately 57%), BHEL stands as the frontrunner in thermal utility projects, alongside emerging as a significant player in the Renovation & Modernisation (R&M) sector, aimed at enhancing the lifespan, efficiency, and reliability of older units.
To date, BHEL has secured contracts for 68 Supercritical Steam Generators (SGs) and 63 Supercritical Turbine Generators (TGs) nationwide. Among these, 34 SGs and 25 TGs have been successfully commissioned and are currently operational.
