Students

In another effort to encourage more children to attain education, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government will now provide funds for the stationery items along with the uniforms to students studying in state-run basic schools. For this, Rs 100 per student will be given through Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) in this academic session.

The proposal of the Basic Education Department has been passed by the UP cabinet to increase the amount to Rs 1200 which was earlier Rs 1100.

Till now, the state government used to give Rs 600 for two pairs of uniforms, Rs 175 for school bags, Rs 125 for shoes and socks, and Rs 200 for sweaters every year. This amount was transferred to the accounts of the parents through DBT. After the approval of this proposal in the cabinet, over 1.91 crore students of the state will get the benefit.

With this additional fund of Rs 100, the students will be able to purchase four notebooks, two pens, pencils, erasers and sharpeners. In the budget 2022-23, the government made a provision of Rs 166 crore for stationery under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Apart from this, the government also made a provision of about Rs 2200 crore for the uniform, shoes, socks and sweaters of the students.

Over 2 crore students to be benefitted

At present, there is a provision to give free uniforms to the students of classes 1 to 8 by the central and state governments, in addition to shoes, socks, sweaters and school bags free of cost by the state government. In the academic year 2021-2022, the amount for uniforms, sweaters, shoes-stockings, and school bags for students of classes 1-8 was sent directly to the parents through PFMS. The number of students who benefitted through DBT in the academic year 2021-2022 was 1,56,28,121. The target is to benefit 2 crore students in the academic year 2022-2023.
