Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Bikaner, Rajasthan, on Monday for a two-day tour focused on border security, anti-infiltration measures and development issues in the state’s border districts. The visit is being viewed as strategically important amid growing concerns related to cross-border smuggling, drone activities and regional security management.

According to Union Law Minister and Bikaner MP Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Home Minister will arrive in Bikaner on Monday night and stay overnight before holding a series of high-level meetings on May 26.

High-Level Border Security Review Meeting Planned

During the visit, Amit Shah will chair a high-level review meeting with senior officials to assess:

  • Border security arrangements
  • Anti-infiltration measures
  • Coordination among security agencies
  • Infrastructure and development works in border areas

Officials said discussions will focus on strengthening surveillance systems, improving inter-agency coordination and enhancing operational preparedness in sensitive border zones.

Amit Shah to Visit Sanchu Border Outpost

The Home Minister is also scheduled to visit the Sanchu border outpost, where he will interact with Border Security Force (BSF) personnel.

During the interaction, Shah is expected to take direct feedback from security personnel regarding:

  • Current border security challenges
  • Operational preparedness
  • Smuggling and infiltration concerns
  • Future security strategies

The visit is expected to provide the Centre with a ground-level assessment of the prevailing situation along Rajasthan’s international border.

Focus on Hybrid Warfare and Drone Smuggling

According to officials, the review meeting is also likely to discuss emerging threats such as:

  • Drone-based smuggling of narcotics and weapons
  • Hybrid warfare tactics
  • Cross-border illegal activities

The Centre is reportedly exploring new projects and technological interventions aimed at strengthening border monitoring and countering evolving security threats.

Rajasthan Administration on High Alert

In view of the Home Minister’s visit, extensive security arrangements have been put in place across Bikaner and adjoining border areas.

Rajasthan Chief Secretary V. Srinivas had earlier chaired a high-level preparatory meeting at the Secretariat to review:

  • Security coordination
  • Administrative preparedness
  • Surveillance systems
  • Law and order arrangements in border districts

He directed all departments and agencies to maintain close coordination and ensure robust security mechanisms in sensitive areas.

Multiple Agencies Participate in Preparatory Review

The review meeting witnessed participation from senior officials and representatives of key agencies, including:

  • Border Security Force (BSF)
  • Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)
  • Department of Telecommunications
  • Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL)
  • Border Roads Organisation (BRO)

Officials also reviewed intelligence-sharing systems, drone surveillance mechanisms, narcotics trafficking control measures and joint operational coordination among agencies.

Strategically Important Visit for Border Management

Arjun Ram Meghwal described the visit as highly significant from a strategic and administrative perspective, stating that discussions with BSF and security agencies would help strengthen border management and accelerate development-related initiatives in Rajasthan’s border districts.

The visit comes amid increasing focus on securing India’s western border and enhancing coordination between security, intelligence and administrative agencies operating in the region.
