The Tamil Nadu government on Monday carried out a significant bureaucratic reshuffle, transferring 17 IAS officers and assigning fresh responsibilities across key departments and urban administration bodies. The reshuffle brought changes in Chennai civic administration, municipal governance, transport, finance and several important state departments.
One of the most notable appointments in the reshuffle was that of G S Sameeran, who has been appointed Commissioner of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), replacing senior IAS officer J Kumaragurubaran after his 22-month tenure.
Chennai Civic Administration Gets New Leadership
G S Sameeran, who was serving as Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, will now head the Greater Chennai Corporation.
J Kumaragurubaran, who led the Chennai civic body for nearly two years, has been reassigned under the latest administrative restructuring.
Another important urban planning change saw G Prakash move from his role as Member Secretary of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA). He has been replaced by A. R. Rahul Nadh, who was serving as Director of Environment and Climate Change.
Major Departmental Changes Announced
The reshuffle also brought key changes in senior administrative positions:
- Gagandeep Singh Bedi appointed Secretary, Municipal Administration Department
- P Amudha appointed Secretary, Food Department
- Satyabrata Sahoo transferred as Secretary, Water Resources Department
- M Vallalar appointed Secretary, Transport Department
- Shunchonngam Jatak Chiru transferred as Secretary, Public Works Department and given additional charge of Natural Resources Department
Key Transfers Across Departments
According to the official order, several other IAS officers have also been assigned new roles:
- Anil Meshram: Moved from Secretary/Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Minerals Limited to Secretary, Energy Department
- K S Palanisamy: Shifted from Secretary, Cooperation, Food and Consumer Protection Department to Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management Department
- V Dakshinamoorthy: Transferred from Agriculture Department and appointed Secretary, Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department
- Sajjan Singh R Chavan: Moved from Planning and Development Department to Secretary, Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department
- Prashant M Wadnere: Appointed Secretary, Rural Development Department from Finance Department
- G K Arun Sundar Thayalan: Shifted from Special Secretary, Finance Department to Inspector General of Registration
- Lakshmipathy: Appointed Joint Secretary, Finance Department after serving in the Chief Minister’s office
- T Anand: Appointed Managing Director, Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board
- M Aarthi: Named Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women Limited
- Dinesh Ponraj Oliver: Appointed Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board
Administrative Reorganization Continues
The reshuffle reflects the Tamil Nadu government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and improve administrative efficiency through strategic deployment of senior officers.
