In a key administrative move ahead of elections, the Tamil Nadu government has transferred four IPS officers following directions from the Election Commission of India.
The reshuffle includes three Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) from Greater Chennai Police, who have now been assigned district-level responsibilities as Superintendents of Police (SPs).
Chennai Officers Moved to District Roles
The transferred officers—D N Hari, Sujit Kumar, and N Shreenatha—were previously serving in key positions within Chennai’s police system.
They have now been posted as district SPs:
-
D N Hari → SP, Karur
-
Sujit Kumar → SP, Nagapattinam
-
N Shreenatha → SP, Virudhunagar
These districts are considered crucial for maintaining law and order during the election period.
ATS Officer Given Field Posting
In addition, D V Kiran Shruthi, who was serving at the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) headquarters in Chennai, has been appointed as SP of Erode.
Her move marks a shift from a specialised security role to direct field-level policing in a district.
Why These Transfers Are Important
Such transfers are routinely carried out on the instructions of the Election Commission to ensure neutrality, transparency, and effective law enforcement during elections.
District SPs play a critical role during the electoral process. Their responsibilities include:
-
Maintaining law and order
-
Managing deployment of police forces
-
Monitoring movement and security arrangements
-
Coordinating poll-related operations
-
Ensuring adherence to election guidelines
