The Central Government, on 6 May, issued a series of important appointments, tenure extensions and cadre-related decisions involving senior IAS, IPS and ICAS officers serving in key ministries and departments.

Among the major decisions, Maninder Kaur Dwivedi, a 1995-batch IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, has received a two-year extension as Additional Secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Her tenure has now been extended beyond August 31, 2026, up to August 31, 2028.

In another important move, Archana Varma, Mission Director of the National Water Mission under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, has been granted a one-year extension beyond September 8, 2026. She is a 1995-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre.

The government has also repatriated Pankaj Yadav, a 2001-batch IAS officer of the Haryana cadre, to his parent cadre with an extended cooling-off period. He was serving as an Additional Secretary in the Department of Rural Development.

Meanwhile, Vipin Kumar, Chairman of the Airports Authority of India under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, has received an extension in tenure up to June 24, 2027. Vipin Kumar belongs to the 1996 batch of the Bihar cadre.

The Centre has also extended the tenures of two senior IPS officers serving in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

  • Ghanshyam Upadhyay, a 1999-batch IPS officer of the Odisha cadre and Joint Director in CBI, has received a two-year extension from June 30, 2026, to June 29, 2028.
  • Rajiv Ranjan, a 2005-batch IPS officer of the Sikkim cadre serving as Joint Director in CBI, has also been granted a two-year extension from May 31, 2026, to May 30, 2028.

In another decision, Bhagwat Chaudhari, a 2008-batch ICAS officer serving as Director in the Department of Economic Affairs, has been granted a one-year extension beyond June 4, 2026, up to June 4, 2027. He has been on central deputation since June 5, 2020.

Officials said the latest appointments and extensions reflect the Centre’s effort to ensure continuity in administration and retain experienced officers in key policy-making and governance roles across important ministries and institutions.
