In a significant boost to India’s defence preparedness and indigenous manufacturing push, BEML Limited has secured a ₹590 crore order from the Ministry of Defence to supply advanced trawl assemblies for the Indian Army.

The contract was formally signed in New Delhi between senior officials of the Ministry and BEML, marking another step forward in strengthening India’s self-reliance in defence production.

The trawl systems will be deployed on the Army’s T-72 and T-90 tanks. These systems are designed to clear landmines and create safe pathways in combat zones, enhancing the mobility and safety of mechanised forces during operations.

According to the company, the equipment features advanced, multi-layered mine-clearing mechanisms that can significantly improve battlefield effectiveness. By enabling safer movement of tanks, the systems are expected to provide a tactical advantage in high-risk environments.

Officials noted that the project also highlights the growing strength of India’s defence ecosystem, particularly the collaboration between public sector units and research organisations like DRDO.

Commenting on the development, BEML CMD Shantanu Roy said the order reinforces the company’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative and its focus on delivering high-quality, indigenously developed defence solutions.

Beyond strengthening domestic capabilities, the project is also expected to enhance India’s position in the global market for advanced anti-mine and defence equipment.
