6G

India’s digital ambitions are moving rapidly beyond 5G as the government eyes global leadership in 6G technology and satellite communications (Satcom). Addressing the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia unveiled the roadmap to position India as a digital powerhouse of the future.

Scindia said India has evolved from being a service provider to a product nation, driven by government-backed initiatives such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. “The Prime Minister’s resolve with the PLI scheme has resulted in ₹91,000 crore worth of new production, ₹18,000 crore in exports, and the creation of 30,000 jobs,” he said.

India Eyes 10% of Global 6G Patents

Underlining India’s growing innovation capacity, Scindia stated that the country aims to secure 10 percent of global 6G patents. The Bharat 6G Alliance, he noted, is already collaborating with international standard-setting bodies. “India is no longer just following global tech trends — today, we are setting them,” he emphasised.

Satellite Communications to Triple by 2033

The minister projected exponential growth for India’s Satcom industry, currently valued at $4 billion and expected to reach $15 billion by 2033. “Satellite communications are expanding horizons — connecting land, sea, and space. At the heart of this revolution are our people,” Scindia said.

India as the World’s Digital Workforce

Highlighting India’s demographic strength, Scindia said the nation is poised to become the world’s largest digitally skilled workforce. “The day is not far off when the world will say it depends on India,” he remarked.

Urging industry leaders to contribute to the country’s technological growth, Scindia called for a spirit of innovation and collaboration.  “Design here, solve here, scale for everywhere. India innovates, and the world transforms,” he concluded.
