Vandana Rao Appointed Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of West Delhi

Vandana Rao, a 2015-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of West Delhi. Prior to this, she was serving as Deputy Commissioner in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).


Born on September 2, 1990, in Kangan Heri village, Najafgarh, Delhi, Rao holds a B.Tech in Computer Science from Kurukshetra University and a Master’s in Personnel Management. She made a remarkable transition from the corporate sector to public service, securing All India Rank 4 in the 2015 UPSC Civil Services Examination on her third attempt.

Rao began her administrative career as Deputy Commissioner of the Karol Bagh Zone and later served in the City-SP Zone under the MCD. Her work in urban governance, especially in tackling plastic waste management in Delhi, has earned widespread recognition.

Beyond her core administrative duties, she is a member of the advisory board at the Adhyayan Quality Education Foundation, where she contributes to educational reform initiatives nationwide. She is married to Hemant Kumar, a 2013-batch IAS officer of the Nagaland cadre.
