Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauched a series of development projects worth ₹3,880 crore in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday, focused on enhancing connectivity, power supply, education, water infrastructure, and urban facilities.

Key infrastructure upgrades include a new bridge linking the Varanasi Ring Road to Sarnath, flyovers at Bhikharipur and Manduadih, and an underpass near Varanasi International Airport on NH-31. In the energy sector, he laid the foundation stone for a 220 KV transmission substation at Chaukaghat and a 132 KV substation in Ghazipur, alongside a ₹775-crore upgrade of the city’s electricity distribution network.

Education initiatives feature the renovation of 77 primary schools under the Smart City Mission and a new Kasturba Gandhi School building in Cholapur. The water infrastructure push includes redevelopment at Samne Ghat and Shastri Ghat, 130 rural drinking water schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and beautification works across key city wards.

Additional highlights include the inauguration of a Government Polytechnic at Pindra, a new college at Barki village, 356 rural libraries, 100 Anganwadi centres, and new sports infrastructure with a synthetic hockey turf and gallery at Uday Pratap College and a mini stadium at Shivpur.
