Intelligent Computing Enabling The Next Phase of India’s Digital Journey

With AI rapidly transforming the way people work, learn, and collaborate, the demand for intelligent, secure, and high-performance computing is growing across industries. As governments and enterprises invest in digital infrastructure, AI-ready devices and edge computing are emerging as critical enablers of productivity, innovation, and citizen-centric services. Shri Sanjeev Mehtani, Chief Sales Officer, Acer India, discusses how Acer is supporting India’s AI-led digital journey through intelligent computing solutions, localized manufacturing, sustainability, and public sector partnerships in an exclusive interaction with Ritika Srivastava and Sahaj Anand of Elets News Network (ENN). Edited excerpts:

As AI applications become increasingly compute-intensive, how do you see the role of  AI-ready  PCs  and  edge  computing devices evolving alongside cloud infrastructure in India’s digital transformation journey?

AI computing is moving toward a hybrid model where cloud infrastructure and AI-ready devices work together

rather than compete. While the cloud remains essential for large-scale AI training and advanced analytics, AI-enabled PCs and edge devices are bringing intelligence closer to users through faster processing, lower latency, stronger privacy, and more personalized experiences.

As AI adoption accelerates across industries, AI-ready PCs will become central to India’s digital transformation by enabling real-time AI capabilities, improving productivity, strengthening data security, and reducing dependence on continuous connectivity. This is particularly valuable for enterprises, educational institutions, and government organizations that require secure, efficient, and responsive AI-powered workflows.

At Acer, we are expanding our portfolio of AI-powered laptops, workstations, and enterprise solutions to help make AI more accessible. Our focus is on delivering intelligent, secure, and high-performance computing solutions that empower individuals and organizations to unlock AI’s full potential.

Governments today are looking beyond hardware to integrated digital ecosystems. How is Acer redefining its approach to become a long-term technology partner for public sector digital initiatives?

Governments today need technology partners that can deliver comprehensive, scalable, and future-ready digital solutions, not just hardware. Acer has built a broad portfolio spanning PCs, tablets, servers, interactive flat panel displays, workstations, and enterprise solutions to address the diverse needs of public-sector organizations.

Our strong presence in the education and government segments reflects our long-standing commitment to supporting digital classrooms, research institutions, and e-governance initiatives across India. Backed by localized manufacturing, nationwide service capabilities, and a robust partner ecosystem, we are well-positioned to support India’s long-term digital transformation agenda with reliable, secure, and scalable technology solutions.

Digital inclusion remains a key priority for states like Uttar Pradesh. In your view, what role can intelligent computing devices play in bridging the digital divide across education, healthcare, and governance?

Technology is one of the most powerful enablers of inclusive growth, and intelligent computing devices are helping bridge accessibility gaps across sectors.

In education, AI-powered devices can enable more personalized, engaging, and adaptive learning experiences. In healthcare, they support telemedicine, digital health services, and faster access to diagnostics, helping extend quality care to underserved communities.

Within governance, connected devices enable more efficient service delivery, stronger citizen engagement, and improved administrative efficiency. As digital adoption expands beyond metropolitan cities, ensuring that technology remains accessible, affordable, and easy to deploy will be essential in accelerating inclusive digital growth across India.

Sustainability is becoming a key consideration in technology procurement. How is Acer balancing high-performance computing with energy efficiency and environmentally responsible innovation?

Sustainability is embedded throughout Acer’s product design, manufacturing, and supply chain strategy. We continue to develop energy-efficient products, adopt responsible sourcing practices, and increase the use of recycled and environmentally conscious materials across our portfolio.

Through our Earthion initiative, we are collaborating with partners across the value chain to reduce environmental impact while maintaining the performance, reliability, and innovation our customers expect. Our objective is to ensure that sustainability and technological advancement go hand in hand, creating long-term value for both customers and the environment.

With AI fundamentally changing how people work, learn, and collaborate, what new expectations are emerging from enterprise and government customers, and how is Acer adapting to meet them?

Enterprise and government customers increasingly expect technology that is intelligent, secure, collaborative, and adaptable to rapidly evolving work environments. Demand is growing for AI-powered productivity, advanced security features, seamless collaboration tools, and devices that can efficiently support hybrid work and learning models. Organizations are also looking for scalable, easy-to-manage solutions that integrate seamlessly into broader digital ecosystems.

To meet these evolving needs, Acer is continuously expanding its AI-enabled portfolio across consumer, commercial, education, and enterprise segments, ensuring customers have access to future-ready technologies that enhance productivity, simplify IT management, and support long-term digital transformation.

If you were to identify one technology trend that will have the greatest impact on India’s digital ecosystem over the next five years, what would it be, and how is Acer preparing for that future?

The widespread adoption of artificial intelligence will be the defining technology trend shaping India’s digital ecosystem over the next five years. AI will fundamentally transform how people work, learn, create, and interact with technology, while enabling smarter decision-making, greater productivity, and new opportunities across enterprises, education, healthcare, and government.

At Acer, we are preparing for this future by expanding our AI-powered product portfolio, strengthening localized manufacturing, investing in AI-ready computing solutions, and making advanced technologies more accessible across consumer, commercial, education, and government segments. We believe AI will become an integral part of everyday computing, and our focus is on ensuring that users across India can fully benefit from this transformation.
