In a key administrative decision, the Telangana government has promoted six senior IPS officers to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP), strengthening leadership at the top level of the state police.
Among those elevated is V C Sajjanar, currently serving as Hyderabad Police Commissioner, along with other senior officers from the 1995 and 1996 batches.
Officers Elevated to DGP Rank
As per orders issued by the General Administration (Services) Department, the following officers have been promoted:
1995 Batch:
- V V Srinivasa Rao
- Swati Lakra
- Mahesh Bhagwat
1996 Batch:
- Charu Sinha
- Dr Anil Kumar
- V C Sajjanar
In-Situ Promotion with Current Roles
The officers have been promoted under the Higher Administrative Grade Plus (HAG+) and will continue in their current postings. This in-situ promotion allows them to retain their existing responsibilities while receiving the rank and benefits of a DGP.
Based on Recommendations
The promotions were made following recommendations by the state’s Director General of Police through official communications over the past year. The order was issued in the name of the Governor and signed by Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao.
Strengthening Police Leadership
Officials say the move reflects the natural progression of senior IPS officers and is expected to enhance decision-making and administrative efficiency at the highest levels of the Telangana Police.
With experienced officers now elevated to the DGP rank, the state aims to further strengthen its policing framework and leadership structure.
