The Delhi government on Thursday announced plans to establish two Artificial Intelligence Centres of Excellence (AI-CoEs) under the IndiaAI Mission of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, aiming to boost innovation, skill development and startup growth in the national capital.

Officials said the centres will serve as key hubs for fostering entrepreneurship and advancing AI-led solutions. Over a four-year period, the initiative is expected to support nearly 100 startups, train more than 7,000 individuals, and generate over 1,000 employment opportunities.

Each centre will be developed with an investment of ₹20 crore under a 40:40:20 funding model involving MeitY, the Delhi government, and industry or academic partners. Leading institutions such as Netaji Subhas University of Technology and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University are expected to be key collaborators.

The AI-CoEs are envisioned as platforms to drive research, innovation and the growth of a robust startup ecosystem. By bringing together stakeholders from government, academia and industry, the centres aim to help startups scale ideas into viable, high-impact ventures.

A major focus area will be the deployment of AI-driven solutions in governance to improve efficiency, transparency and responsiveness in public service delivery, thereby enhancing citizen experience.

The initiative will also emphasise building a future-ready workforce through structured training programmes, capacity-building initiatives and certification courses in AI and related technologies, creating a strong talent pipeline for emerging sectors.

Delhi IT Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the move is aimed at developing skilled AI professionals while enabling innovators to address real-world challenges. He added that the initiative would strengthen Delhi’s position as a hub for artificial intelligence and next-generation technologies, while also attracting investments and generating employment.
