The growing challenge of urban pollution has made it clear that cities must rethink how mobility systems are designed and implemented. Highlighting conditions in cities like Delhi, the urgency for cleaner alternatives becomes evident. In this context, Telangana has taken an early lead by adopting a proactive and policy-driven approach, with Hyderabad at the centre of this transformation.

A key pillar of this shift has been the state’s progressive EV policy. By offering complete tax and registration exemptions for electric vehicles until 2026, the government has created strong incentives to accelerate adoption. While this move involved an estimated revenue impact of nearly ₹1,000 crore, it has delivered tangible results, with around 1.55 lakh EVs already sold. This rapid uptake positions Telangana among the leading states in advancing electric mobility.

Building on this momentum, the state is now moving towards creating a fully electric urban ecosystem. Hyderabad is being envisioned as a “pure EV zone,” supported by large-scale deployment of electric buses, with approvals already in place for nearly 2,500 buses. This transition is not limited to public transport alone. Last-mile connectivity is also being restructured, with autos in core areas encouraged to shift away from petrol and diesel. Through financial support and incentives, the government is enabling a gradual transition to CNG, LPG, or retrofitted solutions, ensuring that the shift remains inclusive and collaborative.

Technology is playing a central role in shaping this evolving mobility landscape. As cities expand rapidly, the need for advanced, efficient, and safe transport systems becomes increasingly important. Hyderabad is actively exploring metro expansion and other innovative mobility solutions to meet rising demand. The broader focus is on integrating modern technologies that enhance efficiency while strengthening road safety and long-term sustainability.

At the same time, governance systems are being reformed to support this transformation. The Transport Department is working towards eliminating manual processes and building a fully digital ecosystem that improves efficiency and transparency. Coordinated efforts among various departments—including urban planning authorities and public transport agencies—are ensuring that mobility reforms are implemented in a streamlined and integrated manner.

The evolution of mobility has also significantly improved accessibility for citizens. What was once a time-consuming and uncertain process has now become faster, more reliable, and increasingly convenient, driven by digital platforms and improved service frequency. This shift reflects the broader impact of technology and infrastructure working together to enhance everyday mobility.

A defining feature of Telangana’s approach is its emphasis on collaboration and openness to new ideas. Platforms such as mobility summits enable meaningful dialogue between policymakers, industry leaders, and experts, helping shape practical and forward-looking solutions. The focus remains on translating these insights into actionable strategies that can guide future development.

With a long-term vision extending to 2047, Telangana aims to emerge as a national benchmark in sustainable mobility. Expanding public transport, accelerating the adoption of clean technologies, and building a holistic, future-ready ecosystem are central to this vision. Achieving these goals will depend on continued collaboration across stakeholders, ensuring that mobility systems remain efficient, inclusive, and environmentally responsible.
