Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday unveiled India’s “MANAV Vision” for artificial intelligence at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, presenting a human-centric framework focused on ethical, accountable and inclusive AI governance.
Addressing delegates at the summit, the Prime Minister explained that “MANAV” stands for key principles intended to guide AI development. These include moral and ethical systems, accountable governance through transparent rules, national sovereignty over data, accessible and inclusive deployment, and valid, lawful and verifiable applications. He said the framework is designed to ensure that AI remains aligned with human welfare and societal values.
The Prime Minister emphasised the need for safeguards in emerging technologies, particularly in areas such as child safety, and noted that the world is entering an era where humans and intelligent systems will increasingly co-create and collaborate. He added that India possesses the talent, energy capacity and policy direction to play a major role in shaping the future of AI.
Highlighting domestic innovation, Modi said that three Indian companies launched new AI models and applications during the summit, showcasing the capabilities of young technologists. He also invited global technology leaders to collaborate with India in developing solutions that can serve both national and international needs.

The summit has brought together policymakers, industry experts, researchers and civil society representatives from across the world to discuss the governance, safety and societal impact of artificial intelligence. Positioned as the first major global AI gathering hosted in the Global South, the event aims to advance international cooperation while promoting the principle of AI for the benefit of humanity.
