Madhya Pradesh is steadily building a strong and distinctive tourism identity by combining its rich wildlife heritage, historical landmarks, and spiritual destinations with focused skill development and infrastructure growth. As part of this strategy, the state government has trained more than 50,000 women in hospitality and tourism-related skills, significantly boosting local employment and service quality in the sector.
Highlighting these initiatives, Dr. Ilayaraja, Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC), said women’s skill development has emerged as a key pillar of Madhya Pradesh’s tourism growth plan.
Women-Centric Skill Development in Hospitality
According to Dr. Ilayaraja, hospitality training programmes across the state have equipped over 50,000 women with skills in customer service, hotel operations, and tourism management. These initiatives are designed to prepare women for employment in hotels, resorts, homestays, and other tourism-linked services, while also creating sustainable livelihood opportunities at the local level.
“The hospitality sector is a key area where Madhya Pradesh can excel,” he said. “By training women in customer service, hotel management, and tourism operations, we are building a skilled workforce capable of delivering world-class experiences to visitors.”
Showcasing a Diverse Tourism Landscape
Madhya Pradesh is leveraging its wide-ranging tourism assets to attract both domestic and international travellers. From renowned national parks and tiger reserves to ancient temples, heritage sites, and pilgrimage circuits, the state is positioning itself as a destination that offers wildlife, spirituality, adventure, and culture under one umbrella.
“Our focus is on creating diverse tourism offerings that appeal to wildlife lovers, spiritual seekers, and adventure tourists alike,” Dr. Ilayaraja said, adding that safety, sustainability, and enriching visitor experiences remain central to the state’s tourism vision.
Strategic Promotion and Infrastructure Push
To enhance visibility, MPSTDC has been undertaking extensive national and international marketing campaigns through roadshows, travel expos, and digital platforms. These efforts are being supported by continuous improvements in infrastructure, connectivity, and visitor amenities at key destinations.

Inclusive Growth Through Tourism
With its strong emphasis on women’s empowerment, skill development, and sustainable tourism practices, Madhya Pradesh is laying the foundation for inclusive growth in the sector. The state’s integrated approach—combining trained manpower, modern infrastructure, and targeted promotion—is expected to further establish Madhya Pradesh as a premier tourism destination in India in the years ahead.
