In a major push to infrastructure development in Madhya Pradesh, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Saturday laid the foundation stones for eight national highway projects worth ₹4,400 crore in Vidisha district.
The projects will involve construction and upgrading of 181 kilometres of highways, significantly improving road connectivity across key industrial, agricultural and tourism corridors of the state.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Agriculture Minister were also present at the event, which was marked by large public participation and enthusiasm.
Grand Welcome for Infrastructure Push
Union Minister Gadkari arrived in Vidisha around 1 pm and was welcomed with a grand roadshow that began from Bada Bazaar and concluded at the old agricultural produce market. The massive turnout reflected public excitement over the large-scale development initiatives being launched in the region.

During the programme, foundation stones were laid for:

3 driving training centres

Total investment of ₹4,400 crore

These projects will strengthen connectivity between Bhopal, Vidisha, Sagar, Rahatgarh and Biaora, easing traffic congestion and creating faster travel routes for people and goods.
Officials said the highways will play a crucial role in boosting trade, agriculture, and tourism, while also improving road safety and reducing travel time.
Gadkari Stresses Technology and Sustainability
Addressing the gathering, Nitin Gadkari highlighted the importance of adopting modern technology and environmentally friendly practices in road construction.
He spoke about innovative initiatives such as the use of treated wastewater in Nagpur for industrial purposes, which is generating significant revenue. Gadkari also emphasized the need to build not only smart cities but also smart villages.
He encouraged the use of agriculture-based fuels and modern materials like bitumen, saying these innovations could boost farmer incomes and reduce dependence on imports.
More Mega Projects for Madhya Pradesh
Apart from the projects launched in Vidisha, Gadkari also referred to several major ongoing initiatives in the state, including:

Gwalior–Bhopal–Nagpur Greenfield Highway – 650 km, investment of ₹40,000 crore

Kota–Vidisha–Sagar Highway – ₹16,000 crore

Nasarullaganj–Rehti–Budhni 4-lane road – ₹1,000 crore
These large-scale developments are expected to further strengthen Madhya Pradesh’s position as a key logistics and transport hub in central India.
CM Mohan Yadav Highlights Local Benefits
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav thanked the Union government for prioritising Madhya Pradesh in national infrastructure planning. He announced that a new medical college will be constructed in Raisen district, bringing advanced healthcare facilities to the region.
The Chief Minister said improved roads will directly benefit farmers, industries, students and travellers, and help create new employment opportunities.
