The Punjab government on Monday carried out a minor bureaucratic reshuffle, transferring and assigning new responsibilities to three senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers.

As part of the changes, IAS Sonali Giri (2009 batch) has been appointed as Additional Administrative Secretary, School Education, and Additional Administrative Secretary, Higher Education and Languages.

Despite the new assignment, Giri will continue to hold her existing responsibilities as:

  • Managing Director, PUNSUP

  • Additional Administrative Secretary-cum-Director, Civil Aviation

  • Additional Secretary, Revenue and Rehabilitation

Officials said the decision to give her additional charge reflects the government’s confidence in her administrative capabilities and experience.

Annindita Mitra Appointed Punjab Chief Electoral Officer

In another important appointment, IAS Annindita Mitra (2007 batch) has been appointed as the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab and Administrative Secretary, Elections.

Before this posting, Mitra was serving as:

  • Administrative Secretary, Higher Education and Languages

  • Additional Administrative Secretary, School Education

  • Additional Managing Director, Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB)

Her new role as Chief Electoral Officer places her at the helm of election-related administration in the state, a position of key responsibility.

Girish Dayalan Made Managing Director of PIDB

The third appointment in the reshuffle involves IAS Girish Dayalan (2011 batch), who has been appointed as the new Managing Director of the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB).

Dayalan will continue to hold his existing charges as:

  • Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Punjab

  • Managing Director, Punjab State Cooperative Bank Ltd

His new assignment is expected to strengthen leadership in infrastructure planning and development projects across the state.

Focus on Administrative Efficiency

Government sources said the reshuffle is part of routine administrative adjustments aimed at ensuring better coordination and efficient functioning of key departments.

By assigning additional responsibilities to experienced officers, the Punjab government aims to streamline governance and improve delivery in crucial sectors such as education, elections, infrastructure, and public services.

The new postings will take effect immediately, according to the official orders issued by the state government.
