The Centre has approved the inter-cadre deputation of Rajeev Singh Thakur, a 1995-batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, to Manipur. He has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of the state.
Deputation Approved by ACC
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) cleared Thakur’s deputation by relaxing the applicable policy provisions. He will continue as Chief Secretary until June 30, 2029, when he is due to retire from government service.
Along with the Chief Secretary’s responsibilities, Thakur will also hold additional charge as Chief Vigilance Commissioner and Principal Resident Commissioner, Manipur Bhawan, New Delhi.
Over Three Decades of Administrative Experience
Thakur brings more than three decades of experience across district administration, state government and the Central government. In Rajasthan, he served as District Collector of Banswara, Bhilwara, Alwar, Karauli and Sri Ganganagar.
His state-level experience also includes work in rural development, livelihood initiatives, and food and civil supplies.
Key Roles in Central Government
At the Centre, Thakur served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence and the Department of Military Affairs. He later became Additional Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
His earlier Central assignments included responsibilities in the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and Ministry of Railways.
From NITI Aayog to Manipur
Before moving to Manipur, Thakur was serving as an Adviser at NITI Aayog, a position he took up in February 2025.

His appointment comes as Manipur continues to focus on strengthening administrative coordination, governance, relief and rehabilitation efforts. His wide experience across state and Central government assignments is expected to support the administration in addressing these priorities.
