Ashok Kumar Singh Promoted as DGP of Uttar Pradesh

Senior 1995-batch IPS officer Ashok Kumar Singh of the Uttar Pradesh cadre has been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP), Uttar Pradesh.


Three Decades of Policing Experience

Singh has more than three decades of experience in policing and administration. Over the years, he has handled several operational and leadership roles in the Uttar Pradesh Police as well as the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

His career has included important positions such as Superintendent of Police (SP), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Inspector General (IG) and Additional Director General of Police (ADG).

Key Responsibilities in Uttar Pradesh

Among his significant assignments, Singh served as ADG, Dial 112, where he was associated with Uttar Pradesh’s emergency response and public assistance system.


He also headed the DG Recruitment and Promotion Board, overseeing responsibilities related to police recruitment, selection and career progression.

Leadership Role Ahead

With his promotion to the DGP rank, Singh takes on one of the senior-most leadership responsibilities in the Uttar Pradesh Police. His extensive experience across field policing, administration and institutional management brings significant experience to the state’s police leadership.
