The Manipur government has appointed H. Gyan Prakash (IAS:2003: Manipur cadre) as the new Chairman of the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC). The appointment has been made under Article 316 of the Constitution of India, marking a significant leadership change in the state’s constitutional recruitment body.

Before taking up his new assignment, Gyan Prakash was serving as Commissioner and Secretary, Education Department, Government of Manipur.
Six-Year Tenure at MPSC
According to the appointment order, H. Gyan Prakash will serve as Chairman of the Manipur Public Service Commission for a period of six years from the date of assuming charge or until he attains the age of 62 years, whichever is earlier.

As Chairman, he will oversee the functioning of the commission responsible for conducting recruitment examinations and advising the state government on appointments to various civil services and administrative posts.
Retirement from IAS Upon Assuming Office

In line with the provisions of the Manipur Public Service Commission Regulations, 1972, Gyan Prakash will be deemed to have retired from the Indian Administrative Service from the date he assumes charge as the MPSC Chairman.
The transition from the administrative service to the constitutional post is in accordance with Regulation 5 of the MPSC Regulations.
Experienced Administrator
A 2003-batch IAS officer of the Manipur cadre, H. Gyan Prakash has held several important administrative assignments during his career. Most recently, he served as Commissioner and Secretary in the Education Department, where he was associated with policy implementation and administrative reforms in the state’s education sector.
His extensive experience in public administration is expected to strengthen the functioning of the Manipur Public Service Commission and support a transparent and efficient recruitment process for the state’s civil services.
