The National Highways Authority of India has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Test House to strengthen quality assurance and quality control in national highway projects.

The MoU was signed at the NHAI headquarters in New Delhi by Vipensh Sharma, Member (Projects), NHAI, and Alok Kumar Srivastava, Director General, National Test House, in the presence of Santosh Kumar Yadav, Chairman, NHAI, and Bharat Khera, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Consumer Affairs.

Under the agreement, the National Test House will undertake independent and third-party testing of construction materials, components and systems used in highway projects to ensure compliance with prescribed standards and specifications. The testing and certification will be carried out in line with specifications issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Bureau of Indian Standards codes and applicable international standards.

The National Test House will also provide technical support to NHAI headquarters, regional offices and project implementation units by offering expert evaluation and technical opinions in complex cases during project execution.

The collaboration will support NHAI initiatives related to road safety and sustainability, with a focus on the performance, reliability and energy efficiency of safety-related infrastructure, including roadway lighting systems.

The MoU also provides for capacity building and knowledge sharing through training programmes for NHAI officers and stakeholders, and dissemination of best practices in material testing, quality assurance and infrastructure management.

NHAI said the partnership will strengthen its quality assurance framework and improve transparency and accountability in the execution of national highway projects.
