New Delhi, June 30, 2025 — In a landmark initiative to promote data transparency and improve accessibility, the Government of India has launched the GoIStats mobile application. Developed by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) through the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), the app was introduced on the occasion of Statistics Day, commemorated annually on June 29.

The GoIStats app is designed to empower citizens, researchers, students, and policymakers by providing easy, on-the-go access to a wide range of official socio-economic data. The Android version of the app is currently available for free download, with an iOS version slated for release soon. The mobile-first approach aligns with the government’s broader objective to digitise governance and promote informed decision-making among stakeholders.
At the core of the GoIStats app is its user-centric design, enabling effortless navigation through key economic and social indicators. A prominent feature, the “Key Trends” dashboard, offers real-time visualisations of critical metrics such as GDP, inflation rates, employment statistics, and other major national indices. This allows users to grasp complex data through intuitive and visually appealing formats.

Another key highlight of the application is the “Products” section, which provides comprehensive datasets available for one-click download in formats such as CSV. Users can filter data by year, category, or sector, ensuring tailored access to information relevant to their specific needs. Additionally, tables and charts have been optimised for mobile viewing, providing a seamless user experience.

To further boost public understanding of statistical data, the app includes an infographics section that simplifies technical data into accessible stories. Interactive charts are accompanied by brief explanations, enhancing clarity and promoting data literacy. The inclusion of a notification feature ensures that users stay updated with the latest releases from MoSPI, including national reports and periodic bulletins.
Beyond providing access to statistics, the GoIStats app aims to build a culture of engagement and awareness. Users can share information directly from the app through integrated social media tools, encouraging broader civic participation and dialogue around developmental issues. A “Contact Us” feature has also been incorporated to invite user feedback and improve the platform through iterative updates.

The app complements MoSPI’s existing digital platforms and represents a significant leap toward inclusive governance. By centralising access to authentic data and simplifying its presentation, GoIStats supports the government’s commitment to evidence-based policymaking and transparent dissemination of public information.
As India continues its digital transformation, the GoIStats app serves as a model for leveraging technology to bridge the gap between public institutions and citizens. Its ongoing development and adoption will play a vital role in building a data-literate society and fostering trust in official statistics.
With this initiative, the government reinforces its vision of “Data for Development,” positioning India as a leader in transparent, tech-enabled governance in the years to come.
