As part of its financial inclusion, Reserve Bank of India, Jammu office, organized an outreach programme at village Theeru in Ganderbal.

The programme was presided over by K K Saraf, Regional Director, RBI, Jammu. Showkat Ahmad Mir, DDC, Ganderbal, was the chief guest and Rajeshwar Rao, Banking Ombudsman, RBI, New Delhi was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.

G M Sahibzada, Executive President, J&K Bank was also present.


Giving background of the programme, Saraf said during the Platinum Jubilee Year (2009-10) of establishment of RBI, the Bank had decided to reach out to the remotest villages of the country to link common man with banks through Information and Communication Technology (ICT) initiatives. He said Theeru was one of the villages chosen by the Bank for the purpose.

The bank has launched outreach programme in the state for 100 per cent Financial Inclusion with the support of J&K Bank by using ICT for issuance of smart cards through the Business Correspondent (BC) model, the bank in a statement said.


Meanwhile, on the occasion smart cards and Kisan Credit Cards were issued to the villagers by J & K Bank.
