The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India has decided to go for open auction of spectrum for 3G services, including mobile services, which will provide high-speed data over the Internet to users.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) of India has recommended wide range of measures for telecoms operators. TRAI said that the existing licenses should be permitted to provide services either of the technologies, called code division multiple access (CDMA) or global system of mobile communications (GSM) on certain conditions.
Spectrum crunch is forcing the Department of Telecom (DoT) to think wire-line. The DoT has asked non commercial users of spectrum such as Defence agencies to shift their communication links from wireless to wire-line mode wherever optic fibre cable is available.
