President reiterates Modi Govt’s vision on eGovernance

E-governance will be the fresh mantra for the Modi Government to transform people’s lives. It was on the anvil, going by the track record of Narendra Modi’s way of working as the Gujarat Chief Minister in the last decade. But now it has been clearly spelt out by the new regime.

Addressing the joint session of Parliament on 9th June, President Pranab Mukherjee announced the new government will focus on e-governance in an efficient manner to change lives of the citizens in the country.

‘E-governance brings empowerment, equity and efficiency. It has the power to transform people’s lives. The backbone of my government’s new ways of working will be a Digital India. IT will be used to drive re-engineering of government processes to improve service delivery and programme implementation,’ said President while addressing in the Central Hall of the Parliament. President also laid government’s future roadmap for IT enabled services for better service delivery. He said, ‘IT will be used to drive re-engineering of government processes to improve service delivery and programme implementation. We will strive to provide Wi-Fi zones in critical public areas in the next five years. My government will rollout broad band highway to reach every village and make all schools e-enabled in a phased manner. Technology will be used to prepare our children for a knowledge society.’

The use of social media by the new government, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been evident since his election campaigning days. Experts opine that it was also one of the crucial factors which helped the party win a whooping majority as it was able to connect with the people, especially the young, effectively.

Seeing the importance of the social media, Modi has also asked his council of ministers to use Twitter and Facebook to disseminate information and to connect with people. New establishment in South Block is giving immense importance to the use of social media. It was evident in the President’s address. ‘Emerging technologies like Social Media will be used as a tool for participative governance, directly engaging the people in policy making and administration,’ announced Pranab Mukherjee on Monday. ‘Digitisation of government records will be done for improving accessibility,’ clearly stated by the President.
