In what can be termed as a gift for people of Maldives, the national registration of Maldives has announced that all new ID cards to be issued from now would be made available to citizens for free. It has also been decided that no additional charges would be levied for issuing the new computerised ID card or replacing the old laminated ones.

Such a step is sure to make it very simple for people to avail their National ID cards. However, it must be noted that the renewal charges for the computer ID cards would be Rf 150 instead of Rf 30 which was the case earlier for the renewal of laminated ID cards.

Similarly people would also have to cough up Rf 100 more as the charges for replacing the lost ID cards has also jumped from Rf 80 to Rf 180.
