Gujarat Transfers 28 IAS, 13 GAS Officers; Gaurang Makwana Appointed UGVCL MD

The Gujarat government has carried out a major administrative reshuffle, transferring 28 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers and 13 Gujarat Administrative Service (GAS) Class-I officers across key departments, district administrations, municipal corporations, public sector undertakings (PSUs) and government agencies.

The General Administration Department (Personnel) issued the transfer orders to strengthen governance, improve administrative efficiency and fill key leadership positions across the state. The reshuffle covers important sectors including power, urban development, rural development, industries, health, social justice, skill development and climate change.

Key Leadership Changes Across Departments

Among the prominent appointments, Gaurangbhai H. Makwana (IAS:2012) has been appointed Managing Director, Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited (UGVCL), Mehsana. He was earlier serving as Director of the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) while holding additional charge of UGVCL.

Prabhav Joshi (IAS:2014) has been shifted from Municipal Commissioner, Junagadh Municipal Corporation to Joint Managing Director, Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), Gandhinagar.

K.J. Rathod (IAS: SCS:2018) has been posted as Managing Director, Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL), Surat, while M.D. Chudasma has been appointed Managing Director, Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL), Rajkot.

The government has also appointed M.P. Pandya as Managing Director, Gujarat Medical Services Corporation, while D.K. Brahmbhatt has been posted as District Development Officer (DDO), Gandhinagar.

District Development Officers Get New Postings

Several districts have received new District Development Officers to strengthen district administration.

The new DDOs are:

• H.J. Prajapati – Amreli
• K.P. Joshi – Devbhumi Dwarka
• D.K. Brahmbhatt – Gandhinagar
• Hiren Jitendrabhai Barot – Dahod
• K.S. Jhala – Dangs (Ahwa)

Changes in Urban Administration

The reshuffle also brings changes in municipal administration.

Suthar Raj Rameshchandra (IAS:2019) has been appointed Municipal Commissioner, Porbandar Municipal Corporation, replacing H.J. Prajapati.

I.R. Vala has been posted as Municipal Commissioner, Junagadh Municipal Corporation.

Smit Santosh Lodha, previously DDO of Dahod, has been appointed Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Surat Municipal Corporation.

The government has also appointed new Regional Commissioners of Municipalities for Rajkot and Vadodara.

Power and State PSUs See New Leadership

Several state-owned companies and agencies have received new leadership through the latest reshuffle. These include:

Notably, B.N. Patel will continue as Executive Director, Gujarat Gas Limited, with the post now designated as an IAS cadre-equivalent position.

Focus on Administrative Efficiency

The large-scale reshuffle impacts departments such as Energy & Petrochemicals, Urban Development, Industries & Mines, Rural Development, Health, Social Justice, Labour, Skill Development and Climate Change, besides several state PSUs.

With the transfers taking immediate effect, the Gujarat government expects the new appointments to strengthen governance, improve service delivery and accelerate implementation of development programmes across the state.
