The newly formed West Bengal government led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has initiated a major restructuring of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), appointing two IAS officers and seven WBCS (Executive) officers to key positions as part of a broader administrative overhaul.
According to official notifications, IAS officers P Promoth and Navneet Mittal have been appointed as Joint Secretaries in the Chief Minister’s Office with immediate effect. P Promoth was earlier serving as Joint Secretary in the MSME and Textiles Department, while Navneet Mittal was posted as Additional District Magistrate of Paschim Medinipur.
The state government has also appointed seven WBCS (Executive) officers as Senior Deputy Secretaries in the CMO to strengthen administrative coordination and policy execution.
The officers appointed include:
- Pramit Das (Batch 2003), previously District SWO and SEO, Howrah
- Samrat Chakraborty (Batch 2004), formerly in the Housing Department
- Amartya Chakraborti (Batch 2007), transferred from the Fisheries Department
- Ayan Dutta Gupta (Batch 2007), previously Sub-Divisional Officer, Diamond Harbour
- Rajarshi Nath (Batch 2008), formerly SDO, Bardhaman Sadar North
- Dip Bhaduri (Batch 2008), previously District SWO and SEO, Purba Medinipur
- Surajit Ray (Batch 2011), formerly Additional Director, DLRS
Officials said the appointments are aimed at improving decision-making, coordination and governance efficiency within the Chief Minister’s Office.
The reshuffle comes shortly after the government reassigned or transferred 16 officers who had been serving in the CMO during the tenure of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, signalling a wider restructuring of the state bureaucracy under the new administration.
In another important development, retired IAS officer Subrata Gupta has been appointed Adviser to the Chief Minister, while Shantanu Bala has been named as the Chief Minister’s Private Secretary.
The administrative changes come after the BJP secured a historic victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, winning 206 seats in the 294-member Assembly and ending the Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule in the state.
The strengthening of the CMO with experienced IAS and WBCS officers is expected to support the new government in implementing its governance and development priorities more effectively.
