New Delhi, October 10: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed Inder Pal Singh Sethi, former Director General and Scientist ‘G’ of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), as Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Sethi’s appointment places him at the head of the statutory authority responsible for regulating digital signature certification in India.
He has held senior positions at the National Informatics Centre, which provides information and communication technology infrastructure and digital services to government departments and public institutions.
He previously served as Director General of NIC and has also held the position of Deputy Director General. In these roles, he was associated with the organisation’s technology initiatives and e-governance projects supporting government administration and public service delivery. His responsibilities included reviewing technology initiatives undertaken by NIC’s state centres and assessing the implementation of digital services across government departments.

The Controller of Certifying Authorities is a statutory authority established under the Information Technology Act, 2000. It is responsible for licensing and regulating Certifying Authorities that issue Digital Signature Certificates for electronic authentication.

The CCA plays an important role in India’s digital governance framework, where electronic signatures and authenticated digital documents are used in government services, business transactions and online processes.
