The Central Government has approved a fresh set of senior-level appointments and tenure extensions, reinforcing leadership across key ministries and scientific institutions. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has cleared the extension of Amit Shukla as Joint Secretary in the Department of Rural Development, appointed Sachin Mittal as Joint Secretary in the Lokpal, and extended the tenure of Dr. N. Kalaiselvi as Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-cum-Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR).

The appointments were notified through separate orders issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
Amit Shukla Gets One-Year Extension

The ACC has approved a proposal from the Department of Rural Development to extend the central deputation of Amit Shukla, a 1999-batch Indian Forest Service (IFoS) officer of the Tripura cadre.

Shukla, who is serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Rural Development, has been granted a one-year extension beyond June 1, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The extension is expected to ensure continuity in the implementation of key rural development programmes and ongoing policy initiatives.
Sachin Mittal Appointed Joint Secretary in Lokpal
In another important decision, the ACC has appointed Sachin Mittal, a 2000-batch Indian Postal Service (IPoS) officer, as Joint Secretary in the Lokpal under the Department of Personnel and Training.
He will serve for a five-year tenure from the date of assuming charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The government has also relaxed the mandatory cooling-off requirement, enabling his immediate appointment to the anti-corruption ombudsman.
Dr. N. Kalaiselvi’s Tenure Extended at CSIR
The Centre has also extended the tenure of Dr. N. Kalaiselvi as Director General of CSIR-cum-Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR).
Her tenure has been extended beyond August 7, 2026, until February 28, 2027, the date of her superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Dr. Kalaiselvi has been leading CSIR, India’s premier scientific research organisation, while simultaneously serving as Secretary of DSIR. Her continued leadership is expected to provide stability to several ongoing national research, innovation and technology programmes.
Strengthening Leadership Across Key Institutions
The latest appointments and extensions reflect the Centre’s focus on maintaining continuity and strengthening leadership in critical areas of governance, scientific research and public administration.
