The Maharashtra government has appointed Manisha Mhaiskar as the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Home Department, while Dr Sanjay Mukherjee has been named Additional Chief Secretary, according to official orders issued recently.

Manisha Mhaiskar, who was serving as ACS of the Public Works Department (PWD), has been transferred to the Home Department, one of the most critical wings of the state administration. She has earlier served as Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and is known for her experience in infrastructure development, urban governance, environmental management, and public communication. A native of Nagpur, Mhaiskar is regarded in administrative circles as a strong crisis manager with a solid track record.

During her tenure in PWD, Mhaiskar’s department reportedly achieved high performance scores in governance assessments, including the 100-day and 150-day governance reviews conducted by the state government.

Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, an IAS officer of the 1996 batch, has also been promoted as Additional Chief Secretary. He holds an MBBS degree from Nagpur’s Government Medical College and Hospital and has held a wide range of assignments across departments. Mukherjee has been associated with several major infrastructure and development projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including metro projects, suburban railway initiatives, and coastal road works.

Widely known for his role in implementing large-scale projects, Mukherjee has also served as Principal Secretary of the Medical Education Department. His work has received recognition from national and international bodies, including UNESCO and the Government of India, for contributions to public administration and governance reforms.

The appointments are seen as part of the state government’s effort to strengthen leadership across crucial administrative departments, particularly those linked to law and order, infrastructure, and public service delivery.
