Budget 2026

The Union Budget 2026–27 has proposed a dedicated initiative for sports goods to promote manufacturing, research and innovation, with the aim of positioning India as a producer of high-quality, affordable sports equipment.

Presenting the Budget in Parliament, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the initiative would focus on equipment design and material sciences, and is aligned with the Budget’s objective of accelerating economic growth by improving productivity and competitiveness.

The Budget has also proposed the launch of a Khelo India Mission to strengthen the sports sector over the next decade. The mission seeks to build on the talent development framework initiated under the Khelo India programme and expand employment and skilling opportunities in the sector.

According to the Budget speech, the Khelo India Mission will include an integrated talent development pathway with training centres at foundational, intermediate and elite levels, structured development of coaches and support staff, use of sports science and technology, promotion of competitions and leagues, and expansion of sports infrastructure for training and competition.
